I was an invited speaker at the annual Oklahoma-Texas Star Party (aka 'Okie-Tex'). I flew out right after another meeting, and gave two talks on Saturday night. The week-long star party is held at Camp Billy Joe outside of Kenton, OK -- a long way from anything! Closest airport is Amarillo which is a good three hours away. The skies are dark and the people are truly extraordinary -- thank you to all of you who were there and hosted my trip!
I was just there for one day / night this year -- and unfortunately, after a
week of clear skies, the clouds came in early this night. Below are photos of
the famous Okie-Tex Saturday Night Brisket, smoked by the members of the Cimarron Heritage Center -- in fact,
feeding 400+ astronomers during the week is the major fund raiser for their
cool museum every year. A few more photos from dinner, and the large give-away
they run, and then a few from the drive back to Amarillo the next afternoon.
