Here's the single-plot summary of what we're trying to do. This is plot of observations done in 2011 by members of the International Occultation Transit Association (IOTA). This was a stellar occultation by the asteroid Antiope. Each line represents the light hitting one telescope on the ground. A single observer gives you a single line, which may or may not even hit the asteroid. But enough observers (56 here, mostly amateurs!), and you can map out the shape of the asteroid, and even look directly for binaries, just like shown here. So cool! MU69 is much smaller, much further away, much fainter... but conceptually, the same idea as this.
